NYAF 2009

Fri Oct 2, 2009, 11:58 AM
Well, it's been almost a week since NYAF ended. It's probably a good idea to write about it now before I forget everything that happened

The con started on Friday, but lucky me had school and wouldn't be home until 2pm. The initial plan was to take the train into the city and meet up with a friend (Mr. Popo) at the station. But of course, that plan promptly failed. So, to make a long story short, I didn't make it to NYAF on Friday, but made it to :iconpuredgnr8:'s house without much of a problem.

Saturday
---------
Cosplays; Me- Rinoa, Scar- Zero, Kineticka - Twilight town Roxas, Puredgnr8- Casual Riku

So, one to Saturday morning. First, let me say that having a person who is deathly allergic to cats in a house with cats is not a good situation. But, it is hilarious in it's own ways. Scar, aka Popo, has said problem. We all literally woke up laughing when the cat decided it would be a marvelous time to initiate a wake up call to the one person allergic to cats.

Anywho, on to the con story. After a bus ride/cab ride, we made it to the convention center where :iconpuredgnr8: and :iconkineticka: waited to get the wheelchair (Riku is injured >.< ) Once that was done, on to wait in line. Luckily, it was the front of the line and we got in with no problems.
Meh, I'm going to skip ahead to all the interesting things that happened.

I was randomly entered into a beauty contest Saurday, I didn't mind but was sad that I had to leave during the epic Enix battle that Riku was wheeled into XD My competitors in the competition; Misty, Pikachu, Tifa and Haruko. Misty won,but no hard feelings, she was freaking gorgeous!

It was on this day that Riku and Roxas got a wonderful idea... fool proof in fact. More on that topic when I get to Sunday's events...

We left kind of early on Saturday, there were waaaaaaay too many people there. And crowds + wheelchair does not = good. So we went back to :iconpuredgnr8's house, and ate. I blacked out around this time, I was exhausted. Little did I know, I would wake up to not Riku and Roxas but... Rufus Shinra and Tseng!!!

Sunday
-------
Cosplays; Me- Rinoa, Scar- Mr. Popo, :iconpuredgnr8: - Rufus, :iconkineticka: - Tseng

Again, we got up early and took the bus. We got to the center, then waited at the front of the line like before. This was definitely my favorite day of the con. How could it not be, I met a bunch of new cosplay friends and finally got an amazing photoshoot of my Dion Rogers Rinoa cosplay. On a side note, I think it's about time to put Rinoa back in the closet. My feet are always dead after wearing it for too long X_x

So yeah, Popo helped with my photoshoot. And when I came back, Rufus and Tseng were being stalked by a Kadaj who wanted to find Mother... I've been waiting so long to time out that scenario XD

Those 3 even acted out a scene from Advent Children with :iconstartwilight227:. I don't know how, but I ended up being hit with Jenova at one point >.> Anywho, while they did that I sat around with Popo and :iconvipersneeker:, and talked about cosplay, yaoi, and various other wonderful con things. We even decided to do a few couple cosplays in the future.

All things must come to an end, so all of us said our goodbyes and parted ways. Popo and I headed to the station, and I was on my own from there.

This all led to the end of another awesome con weekend. I met a bunch of new people, and hope to see them at the next con. Aside from all the crowds and loud people, I loved it. Thank you NYAF for another wonderful time ^_^

hey i was just looking at other dissidia cosplays on cosplay.com when i came upon a sephiroth that you were in a photoshoot with as aerith. i was like, "hey, i know that person!" anyway i think its really cool and i was wondering if u could tell me more about it
:iconrenzokukenxiv:
Heya! Ah, you mean Desiree. She's really awesome, she was also in the masquerade at Anime Boston this year. What more would you like to know?

--
...Whatever...
:iconcanispanthera:
i was interested in how you got the shoot organized, whether you hired a photographer, collaborated with Desiree, etc. Trying to get ideas about future shoots and knowledge of how other people go about it
:iconrenzokukenxiv:
Ooh, Ok. Well, at last years New York Anime Festival I scheduled a shoot online with a photographer who does free photoshoots. Also at that convention I met Desiree as Sephiroth. So for the next convention when I was Aerith, I contacted the photographer ahead of time who had also shot Desiree before. So, because we had the same contacts we ended up having a shoot together.

There are other ways though, but unfortunately very few photographers who shoot for free. I think on average they cost $25 per session, but I'll ask. As for collaborating, I'd suggest doing a bit of networking during conventions. You meet a ton of people who you might be able to work with later on. So, meet people and stay in touch is basically what I try to do for each convention.

:iconcanispanthera:
Right, I'll keep that in mind. I always meet a lot of great people at conventions and can stay in contact easily enough, like you for example! But yeah I'm surprised to hear about the free photo session, that's awesome. I guess I got discouraged because I heard of one photographer's rate of $50 an hour with a flat rate of $50, but it's good to know there's cheaper ones out there. Well, thanks for the info!
